WILL TAIT

Born in Edinburgh Scotland on April 1, 1942 Will moved to California with his family at the age of six.

During the first few years in California Will spent weekends with his uncle who lived in San Francisco and would attend free art classes for children at the deYoung Museum in Golden Gate Park.

Throughout his early adult like he took various art classes and spent considerable time On his own, drawing, making small sculptures and painting. Eventually he found his way to the Art Students League of New York where he studied classical drawing and anatomy with Robert Beverly Hale and painting with several instructors.

He moved back to California and for about a decade Will focused on printmaking (etching and lithography) and his work is in corporate collections and the permanent print collection at the California Palace of the Legion of Honor museum in San Francisco .

In the late ‘80’s and early ‘90’s Will focused his creative energy exploring the possibility of computers as potential tools for the making of fine art. He wrote two books on computer graphics (published by Microsoft Press) and his computer imagery was exhibited at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art Artist’s gallery along with an installation piece that explored the possibilities of involving the public in the creative process. In the late ‘90’s he took time out to study fine furniture making so that he could incorporate his sculpture background with furniture of his own design. He is currently creating wood sculpture along with designing and making custom furniture.

From 1962 to 1980 Will lived in Big Sur with a few years of wandering the world interspersed. He considers Big Sur to be his spiritual and creative home.
