My
painting career began midlife when I finally decided to
spend my time doing what I loved. I become calm and fully
present to one activity when I paint. Everythingelse
slips away and my mind is clear. Painting is a meditation.
When I study a flower I am touched by its intricate beauty
of detail, each petal in theme but unique. Shells capture
me with their mathematical precision and symmetry and
never are two shells exactly the same. I comprehend
infinity yet again.0ur
studio overlooks miles of dramatically undulating
coastline. My first landscape painting was from our south
patio. How could I express such magnificence?he
fluid medium of watercolor, a demanding task master, is a
juxtaposition of light with brilliant color. A painting
may begin
with a feeling and the colors that excite me. I pour these
watercolors on paper and encourage them to blend and
create their own shapes. And from this I let a landscape
emerge. The painting unfolds as I paint. I learn to trust
my intuition. At other times, I carefully plan and follow
a concept of a particular scene that moves me, always
being flexible to change and allowing the painting to
speak.
am blessed to live my vision teaching and painting. It is
a mystery of grace. I live in gratitude. I touch my brush
to a well of
thick creamy watercolor, a path of color opens up before
me and time disappears. |
