JEFF DANIEL SMITH

A native Californian, Jeff was born with a passion for art. As a child Jeff was constantly drawing, and progressed to frequently winning awards in his High school art shows. Jeff attended El Camino College where he studied art history, as well as drawing and painting live models.

His formal art career began in his mid twenties when Jeff began working for commercial studios that specialized in the creation of paintings and murals for commercial spaces and backdrops for photography and film.  Jeff’s talent expanded with the experience allowing him to paint on a large scale, in a wide variety of subjects and styles.

Arriving on the scenically diverse and beautiful Monterey Peninsula in 1994, Jeff’s artistic inspiration drew him to paint en plein air, and with six other Peninsula artists, formed the Informalists. In 1998 Jeff was chosen to become a member of the prestigious Carmel Art Association.

The beauty that is California speaks to Jeff- be it the rolling hills, dotted with oaks and kissed by the sun or the stateliness of pines reaching for the sky. Brilliant color and bold brushwork on a plein air study or a large studio piece, translates Jeff’s vision and captures the fleeting light of the moment.
